Use of Glitches and Cheats
Thursday, 01 January 2009 06:05

The primarily focus of Easy Xbox 360 Achievements is to help you get Xbox 360 achievements the easy way. We try to supply as much information as we can on the games, shortcuts, cheats and occasionally the glitches that help you attain this. Not every game has a guide, but at least we point you in the right direction and no other site is dedicated to just easy points as we are.

Being a site that is about gaining achievements, the debate rolls on whether using a glitch or cheat is fair in obtaining achievements. Let's face it, shouldn't gaining an achievement be done and awarded for doing just that? Shouldn't there be a sense of pride in actually achieving the achievement the way is was meant to be achieved? Of course there is. However, let's look at why people cheat then.

USE OF CHEATS IS ACCEPTABLE

Every gamer on this planet is different. Each of us have our definition and what we find enjoyable at a game. Some of us like it hard and tough where others find that type of gameplay too frustrating and time consuming. Some love to play by the rules where others like to enhance their experiences by breaking some rules. Developers know this, and when designing a game their main objective is that you enjoy yourself. This is why some of them supply cheats. To make sure they get a broad range of people to play their games.

So if developers supply cheats codes, then using them to unlock achievements is acceptable? Of course it is. They can easily enable or disable them. If they chose the cheats codes to help you, then they have felt that using them to unlock them would be enjoyable. Some purists might argue what's the point of the achievement if everybody can get them. Because gaining an achievement is enjoyable and why they also include (more so these days) the super easy "complete the tutorial achievements". Achievements are an excellent way of getting the player involved in the game while also rewarding the experience.

There are of course plenty still hard to get achievements that can only be unlocked legit, so purists can always try to obtain those and they remain as "trophies" anyway.

WHAT ABOUT GLITCHES?

Glitches are a sticky point to some. If you don't know what a glitch is, it is unintentional data corruption in a game that sometimes can be beneficial to the player. They are most of the time a hindrance to gameplay (like unable to complete a level) but on rare occasions have unlocked achievements without the said task being performed or allowed an advantage not easily obtained by normal gameplay.

Because they are unintentional, then a lot of people frown on the use of them. A lot of websites do not publish beneficial glitches and some delete forum threads because they promote too heated debates. I disagree in not publishing them. In today's internet age they are not secluded to a select few, so anybody can find out about them.

I class beneficial glitches in the same league as cheats. I personally feel using them is personal preference to the player. You have bought the game and if you decide using a glitch will give you more enjoyment, then it is entirely up to you and your conscience. If you decide to use a glitch to unlock a hard achievement, then the only person you are cheating is yourself. I have personally used some in occasional boss fights, but I had more fun in doing so. Which is why we buy a gaming console. To have fun.

If you are not damaging or taking away the enjoyment from someone else, then what's the harm? My favourite and good example is the "easy money glitch" sometimes found in RPG's.  There is nothing like being a billionaire in these games as it takes away the mundane task of looting. I find more enjoyment in being rich and I am only fooling myself, so who am I hurting? Which brings me to my next point.

ONLINE GLITCHING

This site will never publish online multiplayer glitching. Although they may be beneficial to the player, it promotes an unfair advantage and creates an unfriendly atmosphere. Glitching online also violates Xbox Live Terms of Use and you may get you banned. If it is not enjoyable to everyone, then we don't want to know about it.

GAMESAVING

For those who don't know what Gamesaving cheating is, it is when you inflate your GamerScore or obtain achievements by manipulating the Xbox 360 software using external tools, WITHOUT playing the game. This is a system hack. We do not endorse or will we ever encourage Gamersave cheating or hacking into the Xbox 360 system in any way. This violates Xbox Live Terms of Use and you may get banned and your GamerScore reset to zero. Gamesaving also creates an unfriendly atmosphere and no one wants that.

SECOND PROFILE GLITCHING

Second Profile Glitching is when you use another account to obtain achievements WITHOUT playing the game, by switching achievements between accounts. Again we do not endorse or will we ever encourage Second Profile Glitching or hacking into the Xbox 360 system in any way. This violates Xbox Live Terms of Use and you may get banned and your GamerScore reset to zero.

HAVE FUN !

Whether it be a bit of rivarly or for your personal satisfaction, there is no denying that getting achievements is fun. More is never less here so the more you gain, the more fun it becomes. This site is community-based, so we are all here to help each other out. If you enjoy getting them easy, then this site is a bonus for you. Why else would you be here?
