Xbox wont read my discs.....also anyone play starcraft 2?

Heeeey everybody! For the last 2 months my xbox would read discs on an off. Sometimes I would have to blow air on the lens or clean the game perfectly for it to work. Now it just wont read games. Before anyone asks I have the VERY first release console that they made. Meaning I got this thing the DAY the xbox came out. So its about 7 years old and I have sent it in around 6 times. So I ask, what should I do? Take it apart? Throw it at it at a wall? For some reason i still can play my arcade games. SO its not completley broken.

Also does anyone play starcraft 2? You should totally add me. Javv250

I had the same problem with one of my originals like a year ago. I ended up just replacing the lens myself and it worked fine. Still use it as a boosting console, in fact right now it's working on seriously 3.0 for me.

Its sounds like the laser unit has given up. easiest way is try find independant repair firm to replace drive as not sure if easy to do self or alternativly find cheap core unit (one with no HDD) and fit you hdd to it.Or as a interrim measure buy a lens cleaner (should be cheap) and see if helps for time being but cleaning lens is not a perma fix

Arcade games run of HDD so no need for laser unit

Take it apart, use a cotton bud and alcohol (or similar white spirit) gently wipe the cotton bud over the lens. This will remove the crud layer which builds up from the dust / heat.

That should get it up and running again

Thanks for the advice guys. I tried your method dooney and it still wont work. Guess its time to have ol bessy put out to pasture....

Which drive is fitted? I presume since its one of the early ones it would be the Samsung MS 25?

If so, either Samsung MS25, MS28 or Hitachi Range lasers will fit and are very easy to do.

I replaced a lens in one of mine and it is a very simple process. Getting the lens will probably be more of a challenge than replacing it. Bad news is my current lens is on its way out as well.
