Rapala Fishing Frenzy
5 - 10 HOURS

Rapala Fishing Frenzy is really easy 1000 and there are only nine achievements. If it wasn't for the 30 quick challenges, it probably be completed in five hours. However there is a way I found to complete them quickly.

The other slow part of this game is the loading. If you have enough room on your HDD, I suggest downloading the game on to it, to cut down loading time considerably.

The most difficult part of this game is learning how to fish. The manual and tutorial are pretty useless in explaining, but basically fishing is just a quick time button event with a balancing mini-game in between.

  • You cast your line by pulling back the right stick and then flicking it forward.
  • Once the lure (bait) hits below the water, wait a few seconds and your right stick  will appear as an icon. This is when you start the Attract quick time event. Rotate your Right Stick clock-wise, then pushing it left or right depending on the sequence on the screen
  • Don't worry too much if you miss it the first time. But you will need Attract later to ensure you catch the right fish. Otherwise you will lose time by throwing back in the wrong fish.
  • After you attract, you will get the right fish to come along and another quick time event, Sure Bite. Push the Right Stick up or down, depending on the sequence on the screen
  • Once you have successfully made the fish bite, use your LT to lure (reel) your fish in. Be careful not to touch the Left Stick at all or you will cut the line and your fish will be released.
  • You will also need to use your RT to extend the line and your Right Stick to change direction of the line. Basically try to keep the green bars in the middle and stay out of the red by flicking your right stick in the opposite direction of the tension and using RT to extend the line out of the red.
  • During this "battle", depending on the fish, there will be a few quick time events called combos. These combos multiply your point score on the catch. Try not to miss the combos if you can as breaking a chain of them delays another appearing sometimes.
  • Combos are not so important on a normal catch, but you need them (and you might as well practice) in the point scoring rounds.
  • Once you have successfully lured in your fish, you will get a cut scene. If the fish is too small, it will be deemed illegal and thrown back. This is why you need to perfect Attract !

The other slight drawback to this game is that there are three difficulty levels and they are not stackable and they unlock as you progress. You will have to play all three difficulties to get the points. But the tournaments are quite short and you will be rewarded 450 points all together.

Just one final note. During the tournaments, use the extra time after you have caught your objective fish, to fish for different varieties. You will need to do this to complete "Fish Connoisseur" achievement (catch 15 types of fish) which only counts fish caught in tournaments. Check the achievement guide below.

ACHIEVEMENT GUIDE

Easy Cup Master - 100 points

Complete the Easy Cup Tournament.

You might as well jump straight in and start. Here are the objectives.

  1. Lake Wylie - Catch Stripped Bass in 15 minutes
  2. Clear Lake - Catch 3 Largemouth Bass in 15 minutes
  3. Lake St. Clair - Catch 5 Largemouth Bass in 15 using only the Shad Rap Lure
  4. Lake of the Ozarks - Catch 20 lbs of Spotted Bass in 20 minutes
  5. Lake Okeechobee - Catch 5 fish in 17 minutes.

Don't worry about choosing the lure (bait). Just use what they give you including in number 3. They give you the Shad Rap Lure as default. Don't worry about moving the boat either. I caught all my fish from the starting position.

If you have extra time after you have caught your objective fish, use it to catch other varieties for the "Fish Connoisseur" achievement. Be sure NOT to use Attract when fishing for these fish.

Normal Cup Master - 150 points

Complete the Normal Cup Tournament.

  1. Lake St Clair - Catch 5 Smallmouth Bass of at least 12" in 20 minutes
  2. Lake Amistad - Catch three 4.5 star reputation or better Smallmouth Bass in 20 minutes.
  3. Lake of the Ozraks - Catch 6 fish in 19 minutes
  4. Lake Logan Martin - Get 10,000 points in 20 minutes catching only Largemouth Bass.
  5. Lake Okeecobee _ Catch 30 lbs of fish in 25 minutes

Number 4 "get 10,000 points" sounds a lot, but is not that hard. Of course, make sure you use Attract. If you fail it, just cast out the line and try again. Cast the line out really long, as this will give you plenty of time to reel in and build up your combos.

Try not to miss any combos as this will break the chain, and sometimes they do not appear for ages. I managed to catch a 4500 the first time, then a couple of 2000 then a 1500 to make my total.

If you have extra time after you have caught your objective fish, use it to catch other varieties for the "Fish Connoisseur" achievement. Be sure NOT to use Attract when fishing for these fish.

Hard Cup Master - 200 points

Complete the Hard Cup Tournament.

  1. Lake Wylie - Catch 35 lbs. of fish in 25 minutes
  2. Lake Amistad - Get 12,000 points in 20 minutes catching only Smallmouth Bass
  3. Lake of the Ozarks - Catch a 5 star reputation Spotted Bass in 12 minutes
  4. Clear Lake - Catch 5 Largemouth Bass of at least 16" in 20 minutes
  5. Lake Logan Martin - Get 15,000 points in 25 minutes catching only Spotted Bass.
  6. Lake Okeechobee - Catch 8 largemouth Bass in 24 minutes using only the Countdown lure.

Number 1, just catch any legal size fish will do.

Number 2 & 5 are the slightly tricky ones. Just remember to cast your line far (like 80 - 90 ft) so you build up your combos. Keeping out of the red on your line seems to trigger off combos. Attract is important here, otherwise you end with an epic combo for nothing.

For the last objective, number 6, make sure the Countdown lure is selected. You can do this by hitting B, then use your Left Stick to choose the lure.

Largemouth Bass Expert - 75 points

Catch 50 Largemouth Bass.

You can catch these anywhere, but there's no need to go into the Open Tournaments. You will easily catch this by the end of Hard Cup Master, if not before. You can check how many fish you have caught by heading into the Extras Menu.

Smallmouth Bass Expert - 100 points

Catch 25 Smallmouth Bass.

If you haven't caught this by the end of the tournaments, head into a Quick Challenge (you have to do these anyway) and into Lake Amistad and get objectives to catch Smallmouth Bass.

Please note if you lose the challenge, the fish caught WILL NOT count.

Spotted Bass Expert -125 points

Catch 25 Spotted Bass.

Head into a Quick Challenge "Lake of the Ozarks" and there is an objective to "Catch at least 20 lbs of Spotted Bass in 20 minutes"

(If you don't get it, as the objectives are random, just re-start until you get it. However you need to complete 30 of these Quick Challenges so might as well get some of these out of the way now if you want)

Striped Bass Expert - 50 points

Catch 25 Striped Bass.

Head into a Quick Challenge "Lake Wylie" and there is an objective to "Catch 3 Striped Bass in 15 minutes"

Fish Connoisseur - 150 points

Catch at least 15 different fish species while fishing in the Tournaments.

There are 21 different varieties of fish, however you only have to catch 15 for the achievement. Only fish caught in tournaments count and only if you have completed your objectives and have not lost the challenge.

That's right. If you lose a challenge any legal fish caught goes bye bye. Sucks, don't it? Best to do the challenge and any time left over, use it to catch other fish. DO NOT use Attract or you'll just catch objective fish again.

You can check what fish you have caught by heading into the Extras Menu. Here are the fish and where to catch them.

Quick Fishing Expert - 50 points

Successfully complete at least 30 Quick Fishing Challenges.

Once you have caught the fish you need to catch, you probably still have a few Quick Fishing Challenges to do. For this achievement, you can do the same one over and over.

The shorteset challenge I found was at  "Lake of the Ozarks" and "Catch a 5 star reputation Spotted Bass in the next 12 minutes"

Nine times out of ten, if you cast here and get Attract straight away, the first fish to come along will be a 5 star Spotted Bass, which takes 3 - 4 minutes to complete. Rinse and repeat. If you don't get the objective straight away, just keep hitting restart until you do.
