So the corrupt save is caused by having too many craft item parts in the inventory or by duplicating too many crafted items. I'm going to bet it's the inventory parts that's doing it because both time this happened I was stocking up on oleanders.
I got the below reply from Deep Silver:
Dear Customer,
thank you for your inquiry.
We are very sorry to hear that your save game file won't load anymore. We are
analysing the problem right now and we will fix it as soon as possible, the
resolution of this problem has top priority.
A lot of players at the moment are (ab)using a glitch in the game to duplicate
items. By doing so you have a good chance to ruin your save game because you
might exceed an 'invisible' limit for some craft items. We are not 100% sure
about this but too many craft parts of some sort in the inventory could
trigger the bug.
What you can do in the future:
It is possible to backup your save game to a USB stick. If you copy your save
game after every gaming session, you are on the safe side in the future and
you can never lose all your progress by doing so.
What you can do now:
You can still start a new game with the same character. Since the game
remembers that you have already been to the current chapter with this
character, you can just load this chapter with your new save game. You should
also be able to start with enough EXP to master the chapter. All your weapons
and all your money will be gone though.
If you do start a new game please don't duplicate items and be reasonable with
the number of craft parts you store in your inventory to avoid being hit by
the bug again in the meantime.
There is a slight chance that the second patch might unfreeze your doomed save
game file, depending on the reason why it can't be loaded. Unfortunately no
other solution than starting a new game has yet been found so far to this
nasty problem.
We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences caused.

you!
