Prey 2 officially cancelled

Bethesda has officially cancelled Prey 2.

Bethesda vice president Pete Hines told CNET: "It was game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be - we never saw a path to success if we finished it.


"It wasn't up to our quality standard and we decided to cancel it. It's no longer in development. That wasn't an easy decision, but it's one that won't surprise many folks given that we hadn't been talking about it."

Unlike the linear shooter gameplay offered by 2006's well-received original, Human Head Studios' Prey 2 was announced in 2011 as an open world game in which players would bounty-hunt aliens. Check out a trailer here.

Hines added: "Human Head is no longer working on. It's a franchise we still believe we can do something with - we just need to see what that something is."

Unconfirmed reports last year claimed Dishonored maker Arkane Studios was working on a complete reboot of Prey 2.

About 2 years ago this looked epic, I suppose it was going to be such a big game that other games would have to take a back seat. At the time it was going to be a massive game designed from the ground up. Hopefully it's just put in the back burner for the future!

My only positive thing about this is that maybe they are working on Fallout 4, so they needed to pull workers from Prey 2 to Fallout 4 well I hope so

I hope it is Fallout 4 they are working on,im really thinking about picking up fallout 3 again i put some hours into that !!

This is sad. It looked like a good game. I hope another developer picks it up or something. I didn't play the first one as it just looked like a generic shooter to me but the premise of this one got me really excited. Guess I'll just have to hold out for the next fallout game.

I was actually pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the first PREY. Granted it took me a bit of time to get into it, as the first section of the game just felt boring and didn't peek my interest (in the old bar/saloon) I ended up turning it off a couple times before it picked up (before Tommys abduction!)

BUT one day I actually felt bored and just played through that section, and man WHAT a great game, I have been looking forward the part 2 for so long!

WHAT A SHAME!
