DefaultDante's Inferno Achievement Guide

  • Time To 1040 - 10-15 Hours
  • Ease Of Game - 3/10 (Easy)
  • Number Of Playthroughs Required - 2 (although the second won't be a full playthrough)
  • Total Number Of People Needed To Boost Online Achievements - no online achievements yet, but as of press time the Trials of St. Lucia DLC sounds to be adding some sort of online mode

Dante's Inferno is a hack-n-slash/platformer from EA Games, and is without a doubt one of the Xbox 360's easiest 1000s of 2010. It is very straightforward, just requiring a lot of collecting and some patience thanks to poor jump mechanics

Notes:
*In order to get the full 1040 on this game you will need the DLC pack Dark Forest (this link is for the U.S. version of the DLC, check your country's marketplace for region specific DLCs). It costs 400 MSP off the Xbox Live Marketplace

*When you start your first playthrough, select CLASSIC difficulty. This turns the game into super easy where it is almost impossible to die in battle, although you will likely die a lot due to the aforementioned poor jump mechanics

*There is NO level select in this game, so if you miss a single collectible you're looking at an entire new playthrough. This is why you want to save in many different slots, I recommend at least 4-6. If you follow the collectible guide this won't be a problem, but it's always good to have insurance

*When you enter the eighth circle of Hell, Fraud, make a save point that you DO NOT save over. This is the only area in the game you can easily get the Poetry in Motion achievement, and again you don't want to do another playthrough if you miss it

*Because there are so many collectibles in the game, I combined them into one giant guide in the order you will find them while playing the game rather than breaking them down by category

*If you get stuck on any puzzles in the game, I highly recommend the walkthroughs on Gamefaqs

Slaughter at Acre (5g) - Fight against the prisoner at Acre
You begin the game being attacked by prisoners at Acre. Killing through the first group will unlock this achievement

Abandon All Hope (15g) - Break through the Gates of Hell
At the end of the first level you will find yourself controlling a giant beast killing off waves of enemies. After they are dead break down the giant doors in front of you for the achievement

Sentence the Judge (25g) - Defeat King Minos
He is the boss of the Limbo level, the achievement will unlock during the cutscene you get after killing him

Lovers Torn Asunder (25g) - Defeat Marc Antony
He is the boss of the Lust level, the achievement will unlock during the cutscene you get after killing him

The Great Worm (25g) - Defeat Cerberus
He is the boss guarding the entrance to the Gluttony level, the achievement will unlock during the cutscene you get after killing him

Like Father Like Son (25g) - Defeat Alighiero
He is the boss of the Greed level, the achievement will unlock during the cutscene you get after killing him

Gates of Dis (35g) - Enter the lower circles of The Inferno
On your way to the Heresy level, you will once again find yourself riding a giant beast walking towards a giant set of doors. Breaking them down will earn you the achievement

The Harrowing (35g) - Escape Heresy
This will unlock at the end of the Heresy level on your way down to the next level

Brotherhood (40g) - Defeat Francesco
He is the boss of the Violence level, the achievement will unlock during the cutscene you get after killing him

NOTE: after Francesco you enter the eighth circle of Hell, Fraud. MAKE SURE you make a new save point here that you don't save over for the rest of the game. You will need this for the Poetry in Motion achievement

Bitter Sweet (50g) - Save Beatrice
This will unlock after the Fraud level when you have completed all 10 trials

Lucifer's Match (100g) - Defeat the Emperor of the Woeful Realm
This will unlock after defeating the final boss in the game

Precious (10g) - Find a Beatrice stone
See Power of the Cross achievement for more information

Power of the Cross (20g) - Find all 3 Beatrice stones
Beatrice Stones allow you to automatically absolve a shade and skip the soul collecting mini game. I recommend not using this as you will want every soul you can possibly get to cut down on playtime. See The Guide achievement for location information

Footsteps of a Traitor (10g) - Find 10 pieces of silver
See Well Done, Judas achievement for more information

Betrayed with a Kiss (10g) - Find 20 pieces of silver
See Well Done, Judas achievement for more information

Well Done, Judas (20g) - Find All 30 pieces of silver
30 silver coins are hidden throughout fountains in the game. Every five you find will earn you extra souls. See The Guide achievement for location information

Relic Hunter (10g) - Find a relic
See Dark Relics achievement for more information

Light Relics (20g) - Find all Holy relics
See Dark Relics achievement for more information

Dark Relics (20g) - Find all Unholy relics
Relics are equippable items you find or are given throughout the game, enhancing your offensive and defensive capabilities. Some can only be equipped once you hit certain experience levels. See The Guide achievement for location information

Note: each relic can be levelled up by equipping it and gaining souls. This will increase the power and abilities of the relics you have equipped. The second you get the Coin of Plutus relic equip it, and you will want it maxed out in level as fast as you can because it will help you get the Poetry in Motion achievement easier

Forbidden Love (20g) - Find and absolve both Francesca da Polenta and Paolo Malatesta
They are the fourth and fifth shades, located on the Lust level. Absolving both of them will earn you the achievement. See The Guide achievement for location information of both shades

Old Friend (20g) - Find and absolve Brunetto Latini
He is the twentieth shade, located on the Violence level. Absolve him for the achievement. See The Guide achievement for location information

The Damned (50g) - Punish or absolve all 27 shades of The Inferno
Shades are the skinless people you encounter throughout the game that are surrounded by a faint glow. You can either Punish them for Unholy experience points or absolve them for Holy experience. When you choose to absolve them you are taken to a button pushing mini game where you can earn extra souls. See The Guide achievement for location information

  • In the Fraud level the first trial where you have to kill all enemies with infinite magic is where you will get your combo hit achievements
  • Before you enter the room, make sure you equip these items: the Sins of the Father magic spell and the Coin of Plutus relic (which increases the time you can go before a combo breaks)
  • Change the game's difficulty to Infernal, which will give all enemies a major increase of hitpoints so you can get bigger combos out of them
  • Now begin the trial and stand in the lower lefthand corner of the platform. Since you have infinite magic, just hold down the Left Bumper and whatever button you assigned the Sins of the Father spell to and HAMMER THAT BUTTON INTO OBLIVION, making sure you never let go of Left Bumper or stop pressing the magic button. You will keep throwing gold crosses at the enemies, and will easily hit 666 hits by the time they're all dead
  • After the trial is over, make sure you switch the difficulty back to Classic

Holy Warrior (10g) - Kill 30 Minions
Minions are the zombie like creatures that rise out of the ground. They are the most common enemy type and you will easily get 30 kills a few levels into the game

Demon Slayer (10g) - Kill 30 Demons
Demons are the taller enemies with horned helmets. They are also quite numerous in the game and you will have no problem killing 30 of them

Bad Nanny (10g) - Kill 20 Unbaptized Babies
Unbaptized Babies are the tiny baby looking demons with swords for hands. Again, there are hundreds of them in the game so this will unlock very fast for you

Indigestion (10g) - Kill 5 Gluttons
Gluttons are gigantic obese demons that first appear in the Gluttony level. There aren't as many of them as most demons, but you will definitely find enough to kill by the time its over

Confessional (10g) - Kill 5 Heretics
Heretics are demons that resemble priests and they first appear in the Heresy level. There are plenty of them to kill in that level alone for the achievement

Countermeasures (10g) - Kill 20 enemies using a counter move
To perform a counter, the instant before an enemy hits you press the Left Trigger to go into a counter stance. You will know you did it successfully because the game will go into a slow motion mode. The second that happens, press either X or Y to attack the enemy. If you kill them with the hit it will count towards the achievement. After 20 of these it will unlock

Superstition (10g) - Kill 20 enemies using magic
You gain magic after killing certain bosses in the game. To activate it, hold the Left Bumper and press whatever button you assigned the spell to. After killing 20 enemies with spells the achievement will pop

Give Me Strength (10g) - Open 20 Health fountains
Health Fountains are the green fountains you find all over the game. Breaking open twenty of these will earn you the achievement

Sorcerer's Apprentice (10g) - Open 20 Mana fountains
Mana Fountains are the purple fountains you find all over the game. Breaking open twenty of these will earn you the achievement

Light in the Dark (30g) - Reach Holy Level 7
See Death's Apprentice achievement for more information

Death's Apprentice (30g) - Reach Unholy Level 7
You gain Holy or Unholy levels in three ways:
  • Every time you find a shade, choose to Absolve them (which earns you Holy points) or Punish them (which earns you Unholy points)
  • When fighting Minions or Unbaptized Babies press Right Trigger to grab them and press B to Absolve them (which earns you Holy points) or X to Punish them (which earns you Unholy points)
  • When fighting Demons and Gluttons, keep hitting them with single weak attacks until you see the Right Trigger icon appear over their head which means you can finish them off with an Absolve or Punish finishing move, which gets you a very nice experience bonus

Again, when you start your first playthrough make sure you ONLY use Holy or Unholy finishers depending on which path you want to follow first (with the exception of if you're going for Unholy first, still making sure you absolve the Shades #4 Francesca da Polenta, #5 Paolo Malatesta, and #20 Brunetto Latini). The second in the game you unlock the achievement for whichever path start doing the opposite path for the rest of the playthrough, because your experience will carry over to the next playthrough and you'll want to spend as little time playing it as possible. You need 9,000 experience points per path for a total of 18,000

If you are doing Holy first, equip the Charon's Oar relic as soon as you can as it will give you extra Holy experience for each Absolution. If you are doing Unholy first, equip the Tail of Minos as soon as you can as it will give you extra Unholy experience for each Punishment

Holy Man (30g) - Max out the Holy path
See Man of Evil achievement for more information

Man of Evil (30g) - Max out the Unholy path
To max out a path, you must buy all the abilities from the pause menu. To do this, spend the souls you earn throughout the game. Something to keep in mind is you can't buy certain abilities until you hit certain experience levels, but you will definitely unlock this towards the end of your first playthrough. Just like the Level 7 achievements, the second you max out the path you are going for start doing the other one as your purchased abilities will carry over to your second playthrough

Gates of Hell (60g) - Defeat all enemy waves in the Gates of Hell Arena
The Gates of Hell Arena unlocks after you've beaten the game once. It is a battle arena style mode where you have fight your way through 50 waves of varying enemies. As long as you are playing on Classic difficulty you will have no problem whatsoever surviving to wave 50, after which the achievement will unlock

Dark Forest (20g) - Complete the Dark Forest on any difficulty
See Clear Path Not Lost achievement for more information

Clear Path Not Lost (20g) - Complete the Dark Forest without getting lost once
The Dark Forest DLC is basically three puzzles rooms with a few battles mixed in throughout, the goal is to chase down a killer from your past. In order to not get lost, you cannot enter the wrong door during any of the puzzles.
  1. In the first puzzle room you will find a golden statue of a leopard, walk up to it and press Right Bumper to begin the puzzle
  2. This will make a ray of light shine above from one of the three doors. Whichever direction the ray of light is shining from in the sky, take the door to the immediate east of it. You will know you did it right if you enter a new room with four doors and see the killer running. If you find yourself back outside with the leopard statue, restart the DLC
  3. In this next door again there will be a ray of light shining above a door. Again, enter the door to the immediate east of whichever direction its shining from. You will know you did it right if you enter an identical room like the one you just left. If you find yourself back outside with the leopard statue, restart the DLC
  4. After correctly choosing the east door five times, you will find yourself walking over a bridge
  1. In the second puzzle room, you will find a golden statue of a lion, walk up to it and press Right Bumper to begin the puzzle
  2. This will make a ray of light shine above from one of the three doors. Whichever direction the ray of light is shining from in the sky, use the lever to move the lion's light beam to the door to the immediate west of it and enter it. You will know you did it right if you enter a new room with four doors a fixed light beam shining into one of them. If you find yourself back outside with the lion statue, restart the DLC
  3. In this new room, you have to move the lion statue so that its light beam is shining in the door opposite the fixed light beam. Enter the door you moved the lion's light beam to. If you find yourself back outside with the first lion statue, restart the DLC
  4. After choosing the first door five times, you will move on to the next section
  1. In the third puzzle room, you will find a golden statue of a wolf, walk up to it and press Right Bumper to begin the puzzle
  2. Drag the giant block in the upper corner of the screen directly in front of the north door
  3. You notice the ray of light keeps changing which door it shines over. When it's shining over the left door, run into it and you will find yourself emerge from the right door
  4. The second you walk out of the right door, run right back into it and you will finally catch the killer

You will now have another battle, after which follow the path to a cliff and you will earn both achievements for completing the DLC pack

Damn that's a lot of collectibles and you have to keep an eye on them as there is no level select?

I question a developers logic other than "artistic story continuation" why there is not a level select with so many collectibles. That's my vent already but at least you can save.

Another fantastic guide Classy!

I honestly don't think much logic went into this game at all, I refuse to believe the same people who made Dead Space could have made it. I think the Dead Space's janitorial team actually coded it.

And don't even get me started on the DLC, which is literally less than 10 minutes long if you know what you're doing.... such a magnificent use of 400 msp.

The 3 million they spent for the Superbowl ad could have gone to better use?

LOL, I still can't believe out of Mass Effect 2 and Bad Company 2, EA chose to give a 3 million ad for THAT game.
