Difficulty : 5/10
Time to 1,000: 12-18 hours
Offline : 32
Online : n/a
Minimum Playthroughs : Two (but make a save in the prison in your second playthrough, so you can do all 5 endings as that is one of the last levels before making the 3 ending-influencing moral choices)
Missable achievements : The collectibles, and others that just require multiple playthroughs.
Glitched achievements : No, luckily.
There are 11 photos, 8 serums, and 18 drawings to collect, but i suggest you don't go for them until the second playthrough when it's easier because you know the game better.
I'll structure this guide for how i got these, which to get in the first playthrough, and which to get in the second.
PRO TIP - Until you get the laser pistol, and even then really, use the knife as your only weapon. It swings so fast that almost no enemy or boss can hit you before you hit them again.
First playthrough:
Alchemilla's Finest - 10 G - You will get this first, it's for killing the first enemy, a nurse, in the nightmare prologue with the knife after you pull it from the mirror.
Creeper Reaper - 10 G - Later in the prologue there will be a cut-scene introducing beetle-like enemies. You will get this for killing the first one.
Sightseeing - 10 G - There are 11 photographs to collect in the game, but i suggest you go for them all in the second playthrough when you're more familiar with the game and don't have to worry about ammo. This achievement is for picking up the first photo, which can be found on a gurney late in the prologue, right before you enter a large, circular surgery gallery room. If you enter that room without getting it, turn back and make sure you get it, because if you drop down you can't get it.
Kaufmann's Handiwork - 10 G - This is for finding your first serum (a special item that gives you crazy health) - The first one that can be found is right when you arrive in Shepherd's Glen, go to the mayor's office/ town hall (has a big statue in front and there will be a cut-scene) - aside from a photograph in the middle main room there, the first side room in the right hallway has a briefcase with the serum on the back table by the window. There is also a room with a save point and a health drink there, too.
Lurk No More - 10 G - This is the next kill your first monster achievement, this time for a lurker. You will find the first one in the flooded basement of your house.
Eddie's Legacy - 10 G - This is the next enemy type, the messed up dogs. There will be two in the graveyard by the fountain when you drop down. Kill at least one and it's yours.
Clear the Air - 10 G - This is for defeating your first smog enemy, and the first one you encounter is after you get the pistol at the junkyard. When you leave the area and cross the bridge back to town it will be there.
To the Point - 10 G - This is the next enemy type, called the needler, found in the hotel level. These guys are annoying as hell until you get the laser pistol. Have your knife out, when they get ready for their big slash attack, dodge to that side and then you can get two or three knife swings in before it turns back to you. Do that 3 or 4 times and it will die.
Six Feet Under - 50 G - This is for killing the first boss, at the end of the hotel level after you encounter the mayor. No real strategies needed, just keep shooting him from afar until you have to use melee weapons at the end when he falls. Take cover behind the objects for his big attacks - that's why they're there.
Split Personality - 10 G - This is for the first schism enemy you kill, guys with a split head, sort of like a hammerhead shark. The first time you'll see one, i think, is in Sheriff's office, though later they will be in your house and at the graveyard. You will get this just by playing, so no worries.
Shades of James - 20 G - This is for killing your first Siam, big clunky dudes with big fist arm things, haha. The first one will be at the end of the Sheriff station in the parking lot.
Blood Donor - 50 G - Defeated the second major boss, Scarlet. She is the daughter of the doctor and will be at the end of the "Hell" mecahnical/ industrial level. Basically just keep shooting/ slashing her to get all the protective bone stuff off, and after a few times of button press pipe attacks, she will turn into the second form where she runs on the walls and ceiling and tries to drop on you. When she tries to, dodge and get some attacks in and then one or two final button press attacks and she will die.
Out of Order - 10 G - This is for killing your first order member. The first time you'll encounter them is in Silent Hill in the electric facility after you active the three machines, several of them will attack you.
Lock n' Load - 25 G - This is for finding the rifle in the Silent Hill cemetery. To unlock the area it is in, you need both the turquoise and i think it's the amber pieces for the statue in the cemetery. Once you put both in you get a key for the gate and then you can access the area. The gun is laying under a partially broken door to a mausoleum. This isn't a required part of the game, very much a side thing, so be sure to get this before going to the jail after you finish the power plant area. The amber or whatever that piece is is found in the cemetery on a bench. The turqoise piece is in a sink in the side rooms of the electrical area before the main room, right before you jump across a gap.
****** Special Note ****** Once you enter the jail, the three ending-defining moral choices are coming up, the first of which is in the jail toward the end. To get the laser pistol for the UFO ending and to make hard mode much easier, these are the moral choices you need to make - Do NOT kill Alex's mother, do NOT forgive his father, and save wheeler. The mother choice comes in the prison, the father in the confessional booth in the church, and wheeler in a chair in the dungeon/ underground area at the end.
Compassion - 20 G - Do NOT kill your mother in the jail. She asks you to shoot her to end her suffering, but choose to not do it.
Catch Your Breath - 50 G - This is killing the boss of the jail, Asphyxia. It looks like the human centipede, haha. This boss is a major pain in the ass, because if it knocks you to the ground, anytime you try getting back up it will likely hit you again, knocking you back down, so be ready to heal a few times. The main thing you need to do is attack its tail. When it does for its whip attack, dodge and it will be open to attack. After a few series of good slashes it will be freaking out in place, so you need to run up and kill it with a button press.
Angela's Choice - 20 G - Do NOT forgive your father in the confessional in the church.
Now about those drinks - 20 G - Saved Wheeler by giving him the health pack in the underground final level
Head Above Water - 50 G - Kill the final boss, Amnion. The strategy for this is to shoot the little body until it falls and then slash like crazy. Just anytime the body is down near you, slash it with the knife and it won't take long to kill. Final boss is the easiest in the game, ha.
No Dogs Allowed - 50 G - This is the achievement for the ending you should get if you made the above moral choices - the UFO ending. This will unlock the laser pistol which will appear in your bedroom the first time you make it to your house in the next playthrough.

Josh's Gallery - 50 G - Found all photos. Here are their locations:
1. On a hospital bed in front of the bathrooms in the nightmare, before the circular surgical gallery
2. On the podium in the center room of the town hall in the city
3. In the sandbox next to the slide in the playground by your house after you crawl under the fences
4. On the fence in a backpack in your backyard (also a drawing in the backyard)
5. On the door behind a painting of a woman that you have to cut in the hotel
6. This is the trickiest one - when you have no weapons in the sheriff station, and are running away, a schism breaks out of a room - you need to go into that room for this photo before running ahead
7. Right before the end of the sewers, after the gate is raised - there will be one last side area and the photo is there
8. In Fitch's doctor's office, in one of the two rooms off the main hallway this is sitting on a shelf
9. After you get the ceremonial dagger and emerge in the graveyard, instead of running back to your house which is the objective, run instead the opposite way to the bulletin board where Elle was hanging signs earlier and the photo is now on the bench next to it.
10. On a box in the attic of your house
11. In the baptismal font of the church
Health Junkie - 50 G - Found all 8 serum; they're all in briefcases. Here are the locations:
1. Right hallway in town hall, first room on right on the back table
2. Room 408's bathroom in the hotel level
3. Side room at Dr. Fitch's office building
4. Behind fans #3 and #2 in the room with 6 fans - this is the opposite side of where you have to go, but take the time to make it so you can duck to the middle area of the left side where the case is
5. Inside a tomb in the Founder's Garden area of the cemetery - opposite tomb of where you emerge with the ceremonial dagger
6. Outside of Alchemilla Hospital on a bench - this is after you come out of the flooded silent hill building and before you get to the electrical plant - go down the street and a wrought-iron fenced in area has this serum on a bench
7. In cell A15 in the prison - this is in the big room where you have to replace wires - when you finish that, open ALL cell doors, and this is in the cell you have to jump across to on the top floor
8. On a desk in Room 301 in the final underground/ dungeon area
Nursery Rhymes - 50 G - This is for finding all 18 children's drawings. Here they are:
1. In the middle of room on the floor just past the keypad/gate in the nightmare
2. On the wall near the stairwell just past the Operation Theatre
3. On a wall in Room 203 of the hospital in the nightmare
4. In hallway on floor after giving Robbie Rabbit to Joshua in the last hallway of the nightmare
5. On the door to Room 206 at the end of the nightmare in the last hallway
6. On a wall in the playground on the right side
7. On a fence in the backyard of your house on the side
8. Behind missing persons billboard where you meet Elle after the graveyard
9. In Room 504 behind a pushable dresser in the hotel level
10. On the floor near where a Smog spawns as you are running down stairs, you have to go to the right to advance, but turn left where the smog came from and it's on the ground
11. On the floor after passing through a fan after Josh leaves the drawing and runs away
12. Once you have the ax and can return to the town hall, do so, and you have to chop open the boarded up room in the left hallway and the drawing is behind a bookshelf you can push to the side
13. Inside a tomb in the Founder's Garden area - THIS IS VERY EASY TO MISS - the second you come up from getting the dagger, before leaving the little tomb, turn left and it's on the wall
14. Inside the closet in Joshua's/Alex's room when you're in the crazy side of your house
15. On a fence behind bait shop near the save point soon after arriving in silent hill - you have to climb under a broken fence to get to this area - it's the end of the street by the cemetery
16. On wall in the upper guard room on the western side of the map - easy to miss
17. Beyond the dead body of your father, to the left immediately, it's on the back of the scaffolding before going down the stairs
18. Toward the end of the underground area, there's a side door in the second half of a room - through it there's a couple laundry bins, behind one of them is this final drawing
Science Fiction - 25 G - Found the laser pistol. Will be sitting on a trunk/desk in your bedroom.
Rising Tension - 25 G - Find the circular saw weapon. This is locked in the garage at your house in any second playthrough, you have to use the pipe to pry open the cabinet it's in.
Mercy - 20 G - This is for shooting your mother in the prison.
Forgiveness - 20 G - This is for, you guessed it, forgiving your father in the confessional in the church.
The Old gods... - 100 G - Complete the game on hard mode. Easy both just using the knife and conserving health packs for when fully needed, or by using the laser pistol, ha.
Four other ending achievements - 200 G -
Smile! - shoot your mother, forgive your father, and save wheeler
Intensive Care - don't shoot mother, forgive father, save wheeler
I did play it only got half way into the game for some reason i left it there, i think i just have too many games to finish.
I did prefer the older versions more scary imo they did not advance the series much, i was expecting a bit more from the game but i did not finish so i can't really judge to much.
Silent Hill 3 is the only game in the series as good as thing one to me. The story is the best in Homecoming, especially the craaaaaaaaaaazy twists in the second half, and it's just fun to play, while the others had times where it was just a grind and backtracking.
