Need For Speed Undercover is a scaled down version of the Xbox 360 game. There are a lot less races to complete and it has simple but fun to gain achievements. The steering controls on this game are quirky and work well, as you use the phone itself as an object to steer the car. Tilting the phone to the left or right will cause the car to move in that direction. This makes the game fun and different to play, although this takes a bit of getting used to.
Basic Controls
• Tilting the phone left or right will move the car in the respective direction.
• Tapping the screen with you finger will cause the car to break (hold it there for prolonged breaking)
• Sliding your finger down the screen will cause the game to go into slow motion (so you can dodge traffic easier)
• Sliding your finger up the screen will allow you to use your boost that you have acquired.
• Sliding 2 fingers down the screen will pause the game.
Ok without anymore nattering on with the guide!
ACHIEVEMENT GUIDE
Story Based Achievements
Trial By Fire - 5 points
Complete the NFS tutorial
Simple, after starting the game up you will watch an opening cut scene and then to prove you can do the undercover job you will be put into a car for the tutorial, simply do as the woman says until it ends. POP easy Gamerscore!
Learner's Permit - 15 points
Acquire your first car
After completing the tutorial, you will have the chance to pick your first car. With the money available I went for the Nissan 240SX, it's a good car with decent stats and also allows a lot of upgrades. Choose your car and the achievement will unlock.
Branching Out - 20 points
Unlock Sunset Hills
After buying your car and leaving the garage, you can choose your race career by clicking on the flag in the bottom right of the menu. This will take you to a mini map. Simply complete the first race available and it will unlock Sunset Hills (area on top right of map) and you will gain the achievement.
That Was Easy - 15 points
Complete Old Cutler Road
This is the third event in Sunset Hills, it requires you to outrun Zack. This is achieved by getting your arrow (green) to the top of the screen and his arrow (red) to the bottom. Easily achieved by boosting instantly from the start, there is no need to break on this game for the most part so simply turn the corners and boost when possible.
If you are struggling on this race a wise move would be to upgrade your car (see Apprentice Mechanic)
Keys to the City - 20 points
Unlock Port Crescent
To unlock Port Crescent (left on the map) you must complete the first 8 events in Sunset Hills and get rid of Zack and Hector. Should only take a matter of minutes.
Retired - 50 points
Complete Story Mode
Simply complete all events on the map. As an event is completed, it turns from yellow to blue. There are 8 events in each zone which means there are 24 events in total. Below is a guide as to what cars I used and when I bought them. Obviously this is personal preference but just in case it comes in useful.
Starting Car - Nissan 240SX
Port Crescent - Mazda RX-8
Mitsubishi Lancer
Palm Harbor - Nissan GT-R (R35)
I upgraded all cars to max before buying the next (you can trade in your existing car as a part exchange against your new car if you don't have enough cash).
Miscellaneous Achievements
Apprentice Mechanic - 10 points
Customize a car
To customize a car you need to upgrade either performance or visuals on your chosen car. To access the tuner shop from the main menu, go to the My Cars option (2nd from right) From there select the upgrade car button on the far right. This will bring up the options of performance upgrade (1st on right) or visuals (middle) The best option here would be selecting one of the performance options (top speed, acceleration, handling or nitro) as visuals do not give you any benefit in races. After buying a upgrade option the achievement will unlock.
Old and Busted - 15 points
Earn a 2nd car for the garage
Playing through the game should net you this achievement. When your starting car is not quite cutting it anymore and you need something faster, enter the My Cars button (2nd from right) from the main and then pick the middle button to take you to the shop. My second car was the Mazda RX-8 but anyone you prefer will unlock the achievement after clicking purchase.
If you wanted this fast then you can pick the cheapest car and get it early on in the game.
Must have 2 cars in the garage at the same time!
Aficionado - 40 points
Earn 5 cars for your garage
By the end of the game you will have mountains of money... unless you have been burning it somewhere! Simply enter the My Cars button (2nd from right) from the main and then pick the middle button to take you to the shop. I had 4 cars at the end of the game so I simply bought the cheapest car. I didn't have (Firebird) and it unlocked.
If you wanted this achievement fast you could buy the 5 cheapest cars when available and then sell them back after you get the achievement
Must have 5 cars in the garage at the same time!
Bountiful - 10 points
Get a bounty over $1000
Unmissable if you are going for the game completion achievement. This achievement is unlocked after completing the event "Menace to society" This event requires you to score $60,000 of damage to complete it so its impossible to not get $1000. Bit of an odd achievement if you ask me!
One tip for the bounty events is to drop everything if you see a car. They are worth up to $5000, so are jackpots. Simply take your time, no need to speed through the event.
