DefaultMass Storage Xbox Patch (Conspiracy Theory)

ok here's one for you, So MS released another patch for the dashboard to extend the already allowable 1gb mass storage device for game saves etc, to 16gb.

Now lets think about that for 1 min, MS lowest storage device excluding memory card (HDD) 20gb, current max 250gb... hmm so why allow a mass storage device of 16gb or less which is non MS. The sceptic would say that allowing 20gb or more would eat into their own storage device sales, clearly MS would not rip us all of like that OR would they

Come on MS do you really think we are all that stupid to believe you kindly allowed us to use 16gb storage, when 2tb drives have been available for a while now so allowing bigger devices than 16gb would have been easy to you..

Naughty Naughty.

good points but i still believe that this update happened because of the lawsuit with datel.ms did it to stick it to datel.the memory cards that datel made supported micro sd cards up to you guessed it 16 gb lolms blocked them only a few weeks after i bought one

JJ is right I think. Datel counter argument against the lawsuit was Microsoft offered no alternative to their first party mass storage devices which harms competition. Then hey presto, an update.

Microsoft said earlier that the lock out of third party devices was due to security? Funny how they changed their minds.

I remember reading all this about Datel, and think this is most likely to reason for the update. My point is more along the lines of not why they are now allowing it, but why have they restricted the size of the allowable media. MS clearly don't like lawsuits, especially if they aren't going to win, i just feel that allowing only 16gb is a marketing stratedgy so not to interfere with their own media hardware sales..

Using a 1tb USB hard drive will format as 16gb regardless, so MS clearly did this in a move to prevent further lawsuits for blocking third party memory devices, whilst at the same time not having any competition on their own devices...

Yes, it allows all types of file storage, but will always format no larger than 16gb.
