INTRODUCTION:

 

Another instalment of the Cabela’s hunting games for the XBOX 360, quick, easy (mostly) and thoroughly enjoyable. The game consists of 96 hunt missions split over 24 locations in the United States. You can easily complete the game in one walkthrough as long as you are mindful of not missing a number of achievements on the way. There are also ample save slots, so make sure to break the game into segments and move onto a new save slot in case you need to backtrack at some point to mop up.

 

Make sure that as you complete each mission that you have achieved at least a minimum of gold, you CAN’T, repeat CAN’T mission select and repeat any of the missions. If you are trigger happy make sure to remove the auto save at the OPTIONS menu, this will add some extra steps however it will give you more control.

 

Most other achievements are easily done simply playing through the missions, however the Upland Bird Slam Cup achievement can be missed as there is a bird that is not a required kill that you might miss on the way through. Mission 93 you are required to take out the Fallow Deer for 1900 points, in the bushes off to the left near the cluster of three deer is the birds. Make sure you get this bird, even if you fail the mission the kill will record the achievement will pop and you simply restart to go for the mission gold score.

 

ACHIEVEMENT GUIDE:

Gold Sharpshooter - 200 points

Complete the game with a minimum of Gold on all missions

 

Simply finish the game with no less than 96 gold medals on the 96 missions. As stated above make sure that if you fail to get a gold score, press (Y) to retry the event before moving on. Do not continue to the next mission as you can’t mission select and come back to it. If you get all golds you will also get the achievements Silver Sharpshooter and Bronze Sharpshooter.

 

Some general advice:

 

• When a mission starts hold down , this will highlight to you where the animals are and take the guesswork out.

 

• Use a call if it will bring an animal closer to you so that you can get a bonus for a close shot kill, you will also get bonuses for the successful calls.

 

• Use the crossbow often once you get it, it is a silent killer and is less likely to alert the animals nearby, also partnered with the X-ray power-up you will get a higher integrity kill and higher points to your required tally.

 

• Pay attention to the mission briefing, you might by after birds and be told there are some deer nearby, this is an opportunity to get some good points by taking the secondary animals out, some missions will be the reverse and you will be told there are bonus wings nearby, look for birds and take them out.

 

• It is not always useful to use the slow motion and quick draw power-ups in arcade games, the number of animals that come by are ample, just let them run in and shoot them like shooting fish in a barrel.

 

• On the bird hunting missions where you have the dog with you, use it, if you scare the birds they won’t fly back towards you, if you use the dog to scare the birds out they will do a few laps and give you a chance to get them before they fly off.

 

I only had a trouble with a few missions, here is some advice:

 

Mission 82 (Minnesota); Groundhogs and Duck;

 

You need to get up close and personal with the groundhogs to max out your score, the way I did it was to use a Duck call, kill the Duck with the crossbow (hopefully with a close shot bonus) and then that will give you a quick draw power-up. Run towards the groundhogs and wait until as long as you can before popping them off, you want some close shot bonus kills here to maximise your score.

 

Mission 93 (Illinois); Fallow Deer and Pheasants;

 

First off kill the three Deer to the left with a crossbow from a standing position, kill the first use the power-up and kill the next two. Go to your gear and use the Deer Scent and this will lure a buck towards you, kill him up close with the crossbow. Now creep slowly forward to the top of the mound where the other Deer are (ignore the birds in the bushes at the moment), use the Deer Scent again for another close kill. Run forward kill the last Deer and head towards the bush with the birds. Use the power-up tramp around the bush like a troll to scare them out and shoot all three. Mission completed with ample points.

 

Silver Sharpshooter -150 points

Complete the game with a minimum of Silver on all missions

Refer to achievement Gold Sharpshooter.

 

 

Bronze Sharpshooter -100 points

Complete the game with a minimum of Bronze on all missions

 

Refer to achievement Gold Sharpshooter.

 

 

Arcade Master Gold - 50 points

Gold has been taken in all arcade missions

 

You will see on the mission briefing prior to starting a mission that it is an arcade mission, generally being the last mission for each region. Simply make sure that you score no less than gold in each of these missions. If you are having trouble getting enough score, try not using the slow motion, quick draw or freeze animals power-ups as these will slow up the number of animals coming on screen for you to take down.

Northwest Master - 20 points

Complete hunting in 4 regions

 

Will unlock when you complete your hunts in the Washington location. Not missable.

 

 

Southwest Master - 20 points

Complete hunting in 8 regions

 

Will unlock when you complete your hunts in the Arizona location. Not missable.

 

 

East Master - 20 points

Complete hunting in 12 regions

 

Will unlock when you complete your hunts in the Ohio location. Not missable.

 

 

West Master - 20 points

Complete hunting in 16 regions

 

Will unlock when you complete your hunts in the Nebraska location. Not missable.

 

 

South Master - 20 points

Complete hunting in 20 regions

 

Will unlock when you complete your hunts in the Mississippi location. Not missable.

 

 

Huge Tracks of Land - 20 points

Hunting in 20 regions has been completed

 

Will unlock when you complete the last hunt mission (mission 96) in Illinois. Not missable.

 

 

Gun Buff - 50 points

Unlock all weapons

 

As you complete hunts your score will unlock more items, the better you perform the quicker you get the unlocks.

 

 

Upgrade Pro - 50 points

Earn all unlockables in the game

 

As you complete hunts your score will unlock more items, the better you perform the quicker you get the unlocks.

 

 

 

I Have the Power - 10 points

Use all Power-ups at least once

 

Simply use each of the power-ups at least once. If you have two shown in the bottom right of the screen simply press (B) to select the next one and then (A)press  to enable it. Power-ups are given for kills over 200 feet, kills within the start of a mission, close range kills, kills after a reload. You will get this quickly enough.

 

 

Peeping Tom Award -10 points

Use the Xrayl Cam 10 times

 

This is the power-up that will help you get your higher integrity kills, makes you screen monochromatic. Simply use more than 10 times, you will be using this one a lot more than that so will come quickly.

 

 

Molasses Award -10 points

Use Slow Time 10 times

 

The power-up symbol looks like a clock, simply use it 10 times.

 

 

Chillax Award -10 points

Use Freeze Animal 10 times

 

The power-up symbol looks like a buck with a snow flake behind the back of its head, simply use it 10 times.

 

McGraw Award -10 points

Use Quick Draw 10 times

 

The power-up symbol looks like three bullets, simply use it 10 times.

 

 

Predator Award -10 points

Use the Thermal Cam 10 times

 

The power-up symbol looks like a buck with glowing heat patters, simply use it 10 times.

 

 

Cats Award - 10 points

Use Laser Bullet 10 times. Pew Pew.

 

The power-up symbol looks like a single bullet with three lines behind it, simply use it 10 times.

 

 

Acme Lost a Customer - 25 points

A maximum integrity, five star Large Varmint, has been taken

 

Easiest way to take a five star animal with 100% integrity is to have the x-ray power-up enabled and using the crossbow (which will unlock early in the game with progression) or the correct weapon type for that animal. This is also easier done in the arcade missions where there are ample animals to take down. You won’t know how many stars the animal is until after you have killed it. Large varmint include Coyotes and Foxes.

 

 

Thanksgiving Dinner - 25 points

A maximum integrity, five star turkey, has been taken

 

Refer above to Acme Lost a Customer, take down any five star Turkey with x-ray power-up enabled and crossbow.

 

 

Check Out That Rack! - 25 points

A maximum integrity, five star deer, has been taken

Refer above to Acme Lost a Customer, take down any five star waterfowl bird with x-ray power-up enabled and crossbow. Waterfowl bird include Ducks, Teals and Geese.

 

It's Raining... Hen - 25 points

A maximum integrity, five star Upland bird, has been taken

 

Refer above to Acme Lost a Customer, take down any five star upland bird with x-ray power-up enabled and crossbow. Upland bird include Ptarmigans, Quails, Grouse, Partridges, Woodcocks, Doves and Pheasants.

 

 

Turkey Slam Cup - 10 points

Complete the Turkey Slam

 

This will unlock once you have killed one of each of the animals that qualify for that cup. The Turkey Slam Cup includes Eastern Turkey, Rio Grande Turkey, Goulds Turkey, Merriam’s Turkey and Osceola Turkey. This should come with normal progression through the missions and unlock near the back end of the game.

 

 

Waterfowl Slam Cup - 10 points

Complete the Waterfowl Slam

 

This will unlock once you have killed one of each of the animals that qualify for that cup. The Waterfowl Slam Cup includes Harlequin Duck, Pintail Duck, Canadian Goose, Blue-Winged Teal, Snow Goose and Mallard Duck. This should come with normal progression through the missions and unlock near the back end of the game.

 

 

 

Small Varmint Slam Cup - 10 points

Complete the Small Varmint Slam

 

This will unlock once you have killed one of each of the animals that qualify for that cup. The Small and Large Varmint Slam Cups includes Marmot, Coyote, Rabbit, Grey Squirrel, Prairie Dog, Groundhog and Gray Fox. This should come with normal progression through the missions and unlock near the back end of the game.

 

 

Large Varmint Slam Cup -10 points

Complete the Large Varmint Slam

 

This will unlock once you have killed one of each of the animals that qualify for that cup. The Small and Large Varmint Slam Cups includes Marmot, Coyote, Rabbit, Grey Squirrel, Prairie Dog, Groundhog and Gray Fox. This should come with normal progression through the missions and unlock near the back end of the game.

 

 

Deer Slam Cup - 10 points

Complete the Deer Slam

 

This will unlock once you have killed one of each of the animals that qualify for that cup. The Deer Slam Cup includes Columbian Black Tailed Deer, Sika Deer, Axis Deer, Coues Deer, Desert Mule Deer, Red Deer, White-tailed Deer, Rocky Mt. Mule Deer, Reeves Muntjac Deer, Sambar Deer and Fallow Deer. This should come with normal progression through the missions and unlock near the back end of the game.

 

 

Upland Bird Slam Cup - 10 points

Complete the Upland Bird Slam.

 

This will unlock once you have killed one of each of the animals that qualify for that cup. The Upland Bird Slab Cup includes White-tailed Ptarmigan, Bobwhite Quail, Ruffed Grouse, Hungarian Partridge, Woodcock, Mourning Dove and Ring-neck Pheasant. This is a missable achievement as explained in the introduction above make sure not to miss the bird in Mission 93 (the first mission in Illinois).
