EA Server Shutdown UPDATE

Following last weeks article on EA shutting down game servers, EA have responded by adding more to the list and removing Madden 09 as it was incorrectly listed. Madden 08 will now get a denied button. Sure makes you think twice when you see a pre-owned EA sports title going cheap....

Maybe this is EA's clever way of downsizing the second hand market trade where they make no money? Like the game Facebreaker is going for for 0.99, with no bids on eBay at the moment. Like who would want a game where there is no chance of getting 1000 points? Virtual Servers could be a solution here for say a limited time. Or even a better solution, no online achievements. Otherwise EA will soon be known as Extinct Achievements dot com.

LOL Extinct achievements that sounds about right

Yeah... EA killed my chance for 100% long ago. Wish you could delete any game from your score regardless of points earned ( losing associated points of course)

Why not just change the way the online content is available? New purchases get access through a passcode. Otherwise, you have to buy access.
Other games are doing something similar by having a portion of their points and game requireing download that comes with a new purchase and otherwise requires payment to download (Dragon Age: Origins).

No Push says: "Yeah... EA killed my chance for 100% long ago. Wish you could delete any game from your score regardless of points earned ( losing associated points of course) "

You CAN delete a game and the corresponding points.
  • RTM  - Weak EA, weak!
Having EA run it's own servers has been nothing short of a constant debacle.

From having to register for EA's mailing list just to access the online component of games (3on3 Hockey, Burnout, etc)to servers shutting down, an EA purchase is looking less attractive every day.
