NHL 2K10 is the latest grindfest from 2K Sports, as usual very easy but quite time consuming and boring. You can use two controllers (three is recommended) to make the games go much easier for you, as well as being able to adjust all the difficulty levels and AI sliders to your advantage and no achievements will be affected.

 

Notes:

*To check your progress towards wins, goals, assists, etc, go to Features / Trophy Room / then press Y to bring up your stats

 

*Modes that count toward 500 games, 894 goals, 2000 points, etc etc - Quick Match, Franchise, and Online Quick Ranked Matches (you must finish the Online Ranked Match for it to count. If someone quits out it doesn't count as a game played)

 

*Modes that DO NOT count toward 500 games, 894 goals, 2000 points, etc etc - Pond Hockey, Mini Rank, Shootout, Drive The Zamboni

 

*Most of the achievements unlock in game the second you meet the qualifications for them. Achievements such as winning X amount of games or scoring X amount of goals will not unlock until after the game has ended

Quite simply, play 500 games of NHL 2K10. You will want to win 200 games to obtain the Devils Trophy and Sharks Trophy achievements, but you can lose the rest and it won't matter. One minute period games are definitely the way to go, but with load times you're still looking at around 4 minutes a game for approximately 2000 minutes total for this achievement.

 

 

2000 Points - 5 points

Achieve a total of 2000 Points

 

Points are counted as goals and assists combined. An assist is when you pass the puck to another player and he scores. You can pass to two different people and then score, thus you can get a total of three points per goal. Using the three points per goal method, you will easily have 2000 points by the time you hit 894 goals.

1000 shots - 5 points

Achieve a total of 1000 Shots

 

A shot is when you shoot the puck in the vicinity of the goalie. If the shot doesn't come near the goal or overshoots it, it does not count as a shot. You will easily get this on the way to 894 goals.

Achieve a total of 30 Power Play Goals

 

A Power Play Goal is when your opponent commits a penalty and is taken out of the game for up to two minutes. When they are out, your team has a Power Play since they have an extra man. Simply score 30 times under this condition for the achievement.

 

 

3 SHGs - 5 points

10 SHGs - 5 points

Achieve a total of 10 Short Handed Goals

 

A Short Handed Goal is when someone on your team commits a penalty and is taken out of the game for up to two minutes. When they are out, your team is Short Handed since you are missing a man. Simply score 10 times under this condition for the achievement.

Achieve a total of 500 Hits

 

A hit is when you check an opposing player with your body. Skate up to someone and press the X button to hit them. You will want to go into Options and turn the slider for Hit Power up to 100 so your hits will register. Simply do this 500 times for the achievement to unlock.

 

Ducks Trophy - 5 points

Create a Player

 

Go to the Rosters menu and then Create A Player. Customize the player how you wish, the achievement will unlock after you press Start to save him

 

Thrashers Trophy - 5 points

Clean 95% of the ice surface with the Zamboni

 

From Game Modes, select Drive The Zamboni game mode. To clear 95% of the ice surface, it's best to drive clockwise around the outside of the rink until you've made a full circle, then start going horizontally from side to side across the rink until this unlocks

 

 

Bruins Trophy - 5 points

Register 10+ hits in one game with any skater

 

Simply hit members of the opposite team ten times with the same skater on your team. See 500 Hits achievement for tips

 

Sabres Trophy - 10 points

Get 3+ assists with one player in a single game

 

An assist is when you pass the puck to another player and he scores. Do this three times with the same skater and this will unlock

 

Flames Trophy - 10 points

Deke out a defenseman using a 1 on 1 move and then score a goal

 

A deke is when you have the puck and are advancing towards the goal with a defender in your way, and then do an agile move to skate past him and score. To do a deke hold down the Left Bumper and press the Right Analog Stick in a direction towards the goal, or you can press A, X, B, or Y instead of the analog stick. As long as you score the achievement will unlock.

 

Tip: Best done using multiple controllers. Have the opponent's goalie set to a controller and move him out of the way so you can score easier. You can also use other controllers to control the defenders so they won't interefere with your deke.

 

Hurricanes Trophy -10 points

Win 20 Face-Offs in one game

 

A deke is when you have the puck and are advancing towards the goal with a defender in your way, and then do an agile move to skate past him and score. To do a deke hold down the Left Bumper and press the Right Analog Stick in a direction towards the goal, or you can press A, X, B, or Y instead of the analog stick. As long as you score the achievement will unlock.

 

Tip: Best done using multiple controllers. Have the opponent's goalie set to a controller and move him out of the way so you can score easier. You can also use other controllers to control the defenders so they won't interefere with your deke.

 

Blackhawks Trophy - 10 points

Score an overtime goal

 

Overtime in the NHL comes when three periods have gone by with the score tied. Before starting a game, make sure you have settings set to Sudden Death Overtime and NOT Shootout. Start a game with two controllers, don't score with either, and just set there until the third period ends. Overtime will begin, then just score with your main profile to win the game and the achievement.

 

Avalanche Trophy - 10 points

Win at home in front of a sold out arena

 

Start a Quick Game with the Detroit Red Wings (as the home team) vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins. Choose the Red Wings and simply win the game for the achievement to unlock. As long as you're the home team, you will have a sold out arena

 

Note: you can also unlock this in Online Ranked Quick match

 

Blue Jackets Trophy - 15 points

Make the playoffs in your Franchise or Season Mode

Stars Trophy - 25 points

Win a Pond Hockey game

 

Go to Game Modes and choose Pond Hockey. Simply win the game for the achievement to unlock

 

Red Wings Trophy - 75 points

Win the Presidents Trophy and Stanley Cup in one season

 

This must be done in Franchise Mode. The Presidents Trophy is awarded to the NHL team with the most wins in the season, and the Stanley Cup is awarded to the winner of the NHL playoffs.

 

The easiest way to do this is start a new Franchise, pick the Detroit Red Wings. Before you begin the franchise make sure you have the salary cap turned off, forced trades turned on, and injuries turned off. Now go to GM Options and trade every single player on your team with stats below 85 for a player on a different team with stats above 85. This will give you a super team, also adjust sliders in your favour. Save the game before going any further.

 

Now simply sim to the end of the season and then sim the playoffs. As long as you have a team of players all rated in the 90s they will win a lot and this should net you the achievements Blue Jackets Trophy, Red Wings Trophy, Penguins Trophy, Capitals trophy, and Islanders Trophy.

 

If you don't get any of the achievements, simply reload your save and sim the season again. You can also sim on a game by game basis, saving after each win, but honestly with a super team of traded players you shouldn't have to worry about this.

 

 

Oilers Trophy - 65 points

Achieve a total of 446 goals

Panthers Trophy - 10 points

Get your 10th leaderboard win in a ranked match

 

To easily get this achievement, find a boosting partner. Both of you search Ranked Quick Match at the same time, and you will get matched up fairly often because this game is quite dead online. It's best to search late at night/early in the morning because there is even less traffic.

 

The infamous 2K Quit method works for this: after faceoff, have your partner get the puck and then quit. The game will ask if you consent to him quitting, choose No. The game will then ask your partner if he wants to forfeit, he must choose Yes. Repeat this until he has quit out nine times, and then play the tenth game all the way to the end for the achievement. Repeat the same for him afterwards.

 

Kings Trophy - 75 points

Achieve a total of 894 goals

 

Score 894 goals for this to unlock. The best way to do this is start a quick game with three controllers (plugged in if possible so they don't time out and turn off). Have your main profile on one team, and the other two on the opposing side.

 

When the game begins, have one of the opposing controllers go into Options / Controller Setup. From there put player lock to Goalie, this will mean the controller will always be the goalie. Then put a rubber band around the Left Analog Stick so it tilts to the far left or right, this will mean the goalie will always move away from the net. Now simply score with your main profile as much as possible in the now empty goal.

 

Note: you can also go into Options with one of the opposing controllers and select "Pull Goalie" to remove the goalie, but after a goal is scored he will come back and you'll have to do it again. The rubber band method will save you from having to pause the game fifty plus times a match.

 

Wild Trophy - 10 points

Score 5 goals in one game with one player

 

Score five times with the same player in a game. See the "Kings Trophy" achievement for information on how to score easily.

 

 

Canadiens Trophy - 10 points

Achieve a total of 101 Assists to celebrate 101 years of the most successful team in NHL history

 

An assist is when you pass the puck to another player and he scores. You can pass to two different people and then score, thus you can get a total of two points per goal. Using the two assists per goal method, you will easily have 101 assists in a handful of games

 

 

Predators Trophy - 10 points

Score an awesome goal with a goalie deke

 

A goalie deke is when you have the puck and are advancing towards the goalie, then do an agile move to fake him out and score. To do a deke hold down the Left Bumper and press the Right Analog Stick in a direction towards the goal, or you can press A, X, B, or Y instead of the analog stick. As long as you score the achievement will unlock.

Go to the Rosters menu and then Create A Team. Customize the team how you wish, the achievement will unlock after you press Start to save it

 

Senators Trophy - 25 points

Go a full game without logging any penalty minutes

 

You have to complete an entire game without your team getting called for a single penalty. You can have the game set to one minute periods, but you HAVE to have penalties turned on when you start it. Easiest way to get this is start a game using two controllers with Overtime Mode set to Shootout. Have them both sit there the entire game without moving or scoring, then have your Main Profile win the Shootout for the achievement. If you have Overtime Mode set to Sudden Death, you risk incurring a penalty when you try to score.

 

Flyers Trophy - 25 points

Achieve a total of 500 Penalty Minutes

 

Penalty Minutes are when you get called for hitting your opponent illegally or tripping him or various other infractions. Before you start a game, go into Options and turn Custom Penalty Length on and set it to two minutes to make sure you get as much time as possible per penalty. Also go into the Rules menu and turn up the sliders for all penalties all the way to 100 so you will get called as much as possible.

 

Tip: this is one of the achievements you will want to get out of the way first, because everytime you get called for a penalty it stops the game and makes the game that much longer towards hitting 500 games. Once you get this achievement, turn all penalties OFF so you don't have to worry about game stoppage anymore.

 

Coyotes Trophy - 25 points

Average an A teammate grade

 

To get this, you must average an A teammate grade in Online Pick Up Game mode. You get an A grade by scoring, winning faceoffs, making good passes, getting good hits, anything positive to help your team win. You lose grade points by committing penalties, losing faceoffs, playing bad defense, anything negative that helps your team lose.

 

The easiest way to get this is find a boosting partner and go into the Pick Up Game lobby. Start searching, and hopefully a match will start with just you and him. If anyone else joins the lobby quit out and search again.

 

Now if neither of you have never played an Online Pick Up game before, both of your grades will be F. If both of you can earn an A in the first game, you will both get the achievement. If one of you don't get an A, you'll have to keep playing and earning A's until your overall average is an A.

 

The easiest way to get an A is when the game starts, have one person pass the puck back and forth between his team endlessly until he hits an A grade. Then let your partner have the puck and have him pass between his team til he has an A. One of you will have to score a goal so the game won't go into overtime, but as long as you both have an A Grade it doesn't matter who wins or loses.

 

Penguins Trophy - 50 points

Play and win 17 games in a row in your Franchise or Season Mode

From Game Modes select Playoff Mode. Set the field to four teams, then select four teams as user controlled and sim all the way to the Stanley Cup finals. No matter who wins, you will get the achievement since you control all teams.

 

Lightning Trophy - 10 points

Get a hat trick

 

A hat trick is when you score three goals in one game with the same player. You can get this even easier using two controllers to move the goalie out of the way when you're going to score.

 

Maple Leafs Trophy - 50 points

Get 10 points in one game with one player

Canucks Trophy - 10 points

Get revenge for the '82 and '94 Canucks. Beat the Islanders or Rangers in any game mode

 

From Quick Game, select the Vancouver Canucks. With your second controller choise either the New York Islanders or the New York Rangers. Beat either team for the achievement

 

Capitals Trophy - 30 points

Clinch your division in your Franchise or Season Mode

In Franchise mode, sim a game. It doesn't matter if you win or lose, but after the game is over on your calendar highlight that game and press the A button. You will get a little menu of options, select Upload to 2K Sports Blog and the achievement will unlock when it finishes uploading the game results online

 

Did I Just Do That? - 10 points

Shoot while stumbling or falling and score a goal

 

Easiest way to get this is start a quick game with multiple controllers. On the opponent team, move the goalie and defenders out of the way of the goal. With your main profile advance towards the goal, and then hold Left Trigger to skate backwards. Try skating backwards at an angle, eventually your player will become off balance. When you see him start doing this, shoot at the goal. If you score the achievement will unlock

 

It's Cold Out Here - 10 points

Win a game at Wrigley Field™

 

On the Quick Game menu, press Y to bring up Options. Go down to arena and change it to Wrigley Field™. Start the game and simply win to unlock the achievement.

 

Mini Rink - 25 points

Win a Mini-Rink game

 

On the Quick Game menu, press Y to bring up Options. Go down to arena and change it to Wrigley Field™. Start the game and simply win to unlock the achievement.

 

International Trophy - 20 points

Win the International Tournament in Playoff Mode

 

From Game Modes select Playoff Mode. Set the field to four teams, change the setting to International Teams then select four teams as user controlled and sim all the way to the International Tournament finals. No matter who wins, you will get the achievement since you control all teams.
